Monday, April 16th, 2012The Premier league has revealed that Manchester United will not have the opportunity to celebrate their 20th Premier league title at the Etihad stadium, despite the fact that United have been awarded the trophy on away matches this season. Manchester United recently opened a five point advantage at the top of the table following their 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday. They have the opportunity to extend the lead even further during the weekend given that City do not play until Sunday. There is every chance that United may seal the title when the two sides meet each other at the Etihad stadium on April 30.
Hence, there have been rumours that Manchester United will have the opportunity to celebrate by lifting the title in front of their arch rivals at the Etihad stadium. Now, the Premier league has confirmed the rumours saying that United will have the opportunity to lift the trophy only in the last home game of the season, although they have been previously handed the trophy in away matches at Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough. United will be looking to get revenge for the 6-1 thrashing they suffered at the hands of City earlier in the season. However, their revenge has to be played out in front of 2600 United supporters instead of the usual 2880 supporters.
City have revealed that they have reduced the allocation due to the persistent misbehaviour from the Manchester United fans. “There are no plans for there to be a trophy presentation on April 30, should the title race be decided. The preference is always to present the trophy at a home game,” said a Premier league spokesman. United winger Ashley Young recently said that they are looking to get revenge for the 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
